Respect and Religion

December 30, 2008

Religion, has it been a blessing or a curse for our planet? How many wars have been fought, how many people have been killed? All in the name of religion. We have the Bible, the Koran, the Book of Mormon, just to name a few, that teaches how to live our lives.

Some of the information is good to follow in your everyday lives, no problem with that. But, when the religion prods you into trying to convert non-believers to the religion the problems arise.

Should we be fighting wars to impose our religious beliefs on other people? Whose religion is right? Can they prove it? I think not. If you want to prove it to me show me something besides a book that has been rewritten no telling how many times and translated umpteen times. That just doesn’t do it for a lot of people as far as convincing them the books are genuine and true.

A lot of the human race has advanced beyond the teachings of the old books. We don’t kill homosexuals anymore. We don’t stone adulterers to death. I take that back, some countries and religions still practice those archaic acts.

How many churches today really need the money they pull in from their congregation. Is enough so the pastor can drive a Mercedes enough. How about a Rolex? Should the preacher live in a mansion?

How many a “televangelist” has gone down in disgrace? We are talking here about the ones that should be setting the example for the congregation.

How many of the homeless and poor could have been helped if the money had been spent on them instead of the ostentatious churches that have been built in the name of God.

If you truly believe in the religious Bibles and God, you would have to agree the core beliefs reflect that you should help the needy. Sure some churches help the needy in some respect or another. What part of the budget goes for the building fund or helping the needy. I’m curious, are you? Especially when it comes to the televangelist.

Jesus spread his Gospel with foot power and word of mouth. Today, a lot of preachers think they need a satellite to get the word out.

Is there a God, is there life after death? Think about the religions that worshiped the sun. They really believed they were right also. The Sun was their God.

Me personally, I do believe in God. I have a hard time believing all that has been created by nature could possibly have happened by a freak accident. Do I believe that one religion is true while another is not? No, I cannot base my beliefs on any one religion. My beliefs are mine and mine alone. No one else probably believes exactly what I believe.

Should I be respected by others for my believes. I don’t know. I should be respected as another person on the planet. Why should I gain or lose any other respect just because of my beliefs?

What are your beliefs? Are they truly your own or are they what you have been taught by your parents and the religion they believed in?

Just something to think about. Nothing concrete here.

Below is a video of an atheist sharing his beliefs. I do not happen to share all of his beliefs but his opinion is interesting to say the least.

An upside American flag is video taped flying in Hawaii. This is the same McDonalds that was taped flying the American flag below the state flag and the McDonalds corporate flag.

What is it with the kooks running this franchise? Have they absolutely no respect for America? Sure seems that way to me. and to top it off it is an American corporation. I won’t go onto another long winded post as I pretty much expressed my feelings, and the feelings of most Americans in my past post about these traitors. What they are doing is illegal and they should be arrested, and as part of their punishment they should have to learn proper etiquette for our flag. And, they must pass a test on American flag etiquette before they are released. Oh, and one more thing. The course and the test are provided in English only!

As a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, just the thought of what this video shows sickens me. Disgusting!

What Happened To Ethics?

November 16, 2008

On Friday evenings someone is kind enough to throw a newspaper on the driveway. It is the little local paper, not the ones with thousands of ads, but the one with all of the local news you don’t see in the News Journal. In fact the paper is called “The Hometown News”.

Like most places we have the main newspaper you pay for, then we have what is called the “pennysaver”, the thousands of ads, and then the free local paper.

While Heidi was reading the little paper Sunday morning over coffee, she read me an article in the “Rants & Raves” section where people write about what’s on their mind. Sort of like this blog, but in print.

Anyway the title was “What happened to ethics”. The writer explained she had been a substitute teacher and sided with them on being underpaid and overworked.

Her daughter had always struggled academically so it was a wonderful surprise when her daughter started bringing home A’s. Her and her husband praised their daughter each time they checked her homework and found out it was all correct.

One day while puting away her child’s clothes she found a copy of the teachers answer sheet in her dresser drawer. I am sure you are thinking the same thing her parents and myself were thinking.
She stole the answer sheet from the teacher.

Well you would be wrong just like us. Believe it or not the TEACHER gave the class the answer sheet. This information came out after the parents arranged a meeting with the principal and the teacher to consult with them on their child’s behavior. The parents asked why they hadn’t been informed. No answer was given. Just kind of a blank stare.

The writer then went on to say that she felt the school was just pushing kids through the system to bring up the grade average which in turn will bring the school more money.

Yes, believe it or not, Florida has a system where the best performing schools get extra money every year. But get this, it doesn’t go to benefit the students, the school staff split the booty amongst themselves.

So what we now find out is that what the teachers are really teaching is how to cheat to get what you want. Can you believe it? I hate to believe it is happening but if it is happening in one school, it has to be going on others.

Disgusting, just absolutely disgusting! The teachers involved in this incident have no respect for themselves, the students, the taxpayers, the parents, and the teachers that have come before them.

Get mad if you want, but I believe we are seeing the fruits of a generation that some were spoiled rotten by their parents and now they are the ones molding the ethics of the next generation.

I, for one, am afraid it is only going to get worse…..

Treat People With Respect

November 14, 2008

While looking through the news today concerning respect I came across a letter to the editor posted on theLedger.com. A Mr. Jack Thiessen had paid a visit to the Veterans Affairs Administration in Lakeland Florida. His comment on the treatment he received at the facility is quite disheartening. After all, the people working at Veterans Affairs only have a job due to people like Mr. Thiessen.

He humbly stated “I know that my service in World War II doesn’t entitle me to any special treatment – neither do my Purple Heart and Bronze Star – but I think I am at least due a little common courtesy.”

Every person deserves to be treated with kindness and respect. Some people deserve a little extra kindness and respect, Mr. Thiessen is one deserving of the little extra respect.

Mike Cline, the author of the article, put it very well as far as the implications of respect, especially in a small town such as Lakeland.

Why do so many people not realize that what you do and how you act can come back to get you? You treat one person poorly and find out they are your kid’s teacher’s father. A teacher treats their student poorly to find out that kid’s dad is their doctor. A doctor treats a patiently poorly and finds out he’s the cook at his favorite restaurant. You cut someone off in traffic and realize the person you just cut off will be dining next to you in the same restaurant.

Think about it, the person you are rude to today may be the person you need help from tomorrow.

Its All A Matter Of Respect

October 27, 2008

Let us think about respect for just a minute or so.
Do you want people to show respect for you as a person even though they may not know you? Of course you do, and so do all of the people you meet in your daily life.
If we were to respect each other the world would [...]
